Jon Valade

In Loving Memory of Jon Valade, creative director and founder of IdeaZone.ca

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Jon Valade, founder of IdeaZone, creative director, educator, and beloved friend.

Jon was more than a designer. He was a true communicator, someone who understood that effective design is not about the medium, but about the message. Whether it was a printed piece, a WordPress website, or music in his studio, Jon believed in creating work that spoke clearly, simply, and beautifully.

He brought this philosophy to every project he touched. Clients knew him for his modern, edgy style, but also for his unwavering commitment to their goals. He believed that design was at its best when it conveyed not just ideas, but feelings, when it moved both the intellect and the senses.

Beyond his creative vision, Jon was a consummate professional. He treated clients and colleagues with respect, mentorship, and genuine care. His knowledge ran deep, honed over decades in the industry, but he remained humble and eager to share. As a leader, he guided production teams with grace. As an educator and speaker, he demystified design, WordPress development, and social media strategy for countless learners.

Jon’s career highlights reflect his wide-ranging talent and dedication. Vice President of the Vancouver Island Chapter of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada. Board Member of the Greater Victoria Film Commission. Co-founder of a computer education centre for marginalized students. A recognized authority on WordPress development in Victoria and beyond.

But for those who knew him best, Jon was also someone who loved music deeply. He brought the same careful listening, layered creativity, and sense of rhythm to his studio work as he did to his design practice. Music wasn’t just something Jon did. It was part of who he was.

Jon’s impact lives on in the many websites he built, the clients he supported, the students he taught, and the community he helped grow. IdeaZone remains committed to his values: clear communication, excellent design, and true partnership with our clients.

We honour Jon’s memory by continuing the work he loved so much and by remembering the man who believed that every message deserves to be heard clearly, beautifully, and with heart.

Jon is survived by his son Matthew, daughter Cassidy, and wife Tammy Willow.

Rest in peace, Jon. You are missed.
